Walking, climbing and mountaineering have been in my life since my late teens. I’ve gathered three decades of outings with groups and individuals in a vast array of landscapes both summer and winter. This includes:
- Bespoke guiding and instruction
- Formal training course – MCI,WMCI
- Part of the training team for future BMG/IFMGA Guides
- Quality assurance for Mountain Training courses

These are the mountain-related qualifications I hold. It implies formal training and thorough assessment of nationally or internationally agreed standards in the following areas:
- Mountain Leader (ML) – summer hillwalking UK
- Winter Mountain Leader (WML) – winter hillwalking – UK
- International Mountain Leader (IML) – summer and winter hillwalking – worldwide
- Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) – summer rock climbing and scrambling – UK
- Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI) – winter climbing and mountaineering – UK
- British Mountain Guide (BMG) + International Mountain Guide (IFMGA) – rock climbing, ice climbing, alpinism, ski-mountaineering summer and winter – worldwide
ongoing learning
In addition to experience and qualifications, to retain membership of our professional associations – BMG/IFMGA – we also have:
- up-to-date specialist First Aid training,
- undertake continued professional development (CPD)
- public liability insurance
Staying current and informed is essential. Learning is an ongoing, lifelong process.
